For the third year running, SLOW CLUB play a special Christmas show at the Union Chapel. Slow Club are defined by their own distinct and powerful partnership. They are more than just charming anti-folk troubadours, or the lo-fi acoustic end of the Sheffield scene; they are the real thing. Everything, from their cheery optimism to their crestfallen lovesickness is life-sized and lived-in, resulting in a crop of tiny, good-natured tunes that invite the intense identification of young romantics. Charles sings with a bruised vocal, and plays rasping guitar with a disarming lightness of touch; Rebecca, with her dash of Northern Soul and sharp wit, plays stand up drums amid an array of percussive apparatus – wooden chairs, glass bottles and spoons. At last years Christmas show, Slow Club ended with an encore of Christmas themed songs, which are sure to get everyone in the festive mood.

THE WAVE PICTURES are David Tattersall (guitar), Franic Rozycki (bass) and Jonny ”Huddersfield” Helm (drums). After six years of performing and touring from two different bases (Cardiff and Loughborough), the band moved together to London in 2009. Among their listed influences are Dire Straits, African pop group the Bhundu Boys, Mississippi John Hurt, the country of Townes Van Zandt and the proto-punk of Jonathan Richman. purely The Wave Pictures. Musically, Wave Pictures are all sweetness and jangle, sounding, by turns, like Orange Juice, the Smiths and the Feelies.

Union chapel is collecting socks and pants for the homeless
We are asking people to bring a pair of NEW socks or pants with them to the gigs at union chapel this Christmas as a donation to the Margins homelessness project.
Approximately 90 percent of the clients at the Margins project are male, so men’s socks and pants will be the most needed. There will be boxes at the entrance to the Union Chapel and in the Bar for you to donate these items.

Every Sunday since 1995 the Margins Project has been welcoming up to 180 people experiencing homelessness, poverty or crisis, providing them with a hot two-course meal, a warm place to relax with friends as well as showers, laundry facilities and a clothing store. We also run a variety of services including an Advice and Resettlement Service, a Cold Weather Shelter, and various classes and workshops. The Margins Project is always particularly busy at this time of year as people seek respite both from the cold weather and the isolation they face as a result of their circumstances – for many this is never more apparent than over the Christmas period.
