We’ve got TEEN propping up our Easter Weekend plans with an exciting free show at the Shacklewell. Fronted by Teeny Lieberson (formerly Here We Go Magic) the band are one of our favourite discoveries over the past year or so.

We roped them in to picking out some songs for us ahead of Saturday’s show and they cover an awful lot of ground, from Led Zep, to a ripping song by The Men, via some classic Al Green. Really great selections. Dive in below via links and videos.

Led Zeppelin - Rain song
Gary Numan - Metal
Pond - Eye Patterned Blindness

The Men - The Brass
Ghostface Killah - Camay

Ultraista - Gold Dayzz
Diana Ross and The Supremes - you keep me hanging on
Al Green- call me
Francis and the Lights - Eiffel Tower

Hospitality - Monkey
Steve Barron Quartet - Mother of us all

We’re delighted to have R Stevie Moore back in London again this May. He was a big highlight of Field Day last year and we listen to his retrospective Lo Hi Fives (released via O’Genesis last year) on a weekly basis. Tickets for this one are onsale now.

Field Day Radio Episode 10

Field Day Radio is back for a tenth show, and this time features an exclusive, in-depth interview with legendary rock drummer Ginger Baker, who is renowned for his work with seminal bands Cream and Blind Faith as well as with Afrobeat creator Fela Kuti. In this interview he takes us on an incredible journey through his life: back to his school days when he used his desk as a drum kit, to the musicians he admires, to his times with Cream and all the way to Africa (he lived in Nigeria for 6 years)…

Plus there is music from King Krule, Jagwar Ma, Metz and Happa; Four Tet’s brilliant remix of Justin Timberlake’s Suit & Tie, classic tracks by Cream and Fela Kuti, as well as a live recording of the Miles Davis Quintet performing ‘Bitches Brew’ back in 1969.

Friday night saw a multitude of the country’s most exciting new bands descend on the main room at The Roundhouse. We sent a few photographers down to capture sets by the likes of NZCA/Lines(above, by Willie Nash), Dark Bells, East India Youth, Teleman, Paradise and more. Here’s some of the best shots…

Teleman by Abi Dainton

Dark Bells by Abi Dainton

East India Youth by Abi Dainton

NZCA/Lines by Willie Nash.

In anticipation of tonight’s very exciting show at The Roundhouse NZCA/Lines made The Quietus a playlist inspired by the act of using public transportation. It’s quirky and full of gems. Have a listen and read over on the Quietus here.

Here’s a swirly new video for Dark Bells excellent tune Wildflower. Shooting guitar needles its way around a driving beat and Teneil Throssell’s yearning, elemental vocal. Great stuff. We can’t wait to see them at Handpicked, at the Roundhouse this Friday night. The trio also play Field Day.

Fresh from conquering SXSW Savages have announced details of their debut album Silence Yourself. It’s out on May 7th and promises to be one of the most exciting debuts of recent years. Have a listen to the amazing She Will above, and peek at the brilliant artwork below (we’re excited, in case you can’t tell).
