LUH is Ellery Roberts and Ebony Hoorn, the lovers of the title. Ellery’s name might be familiar as the frontman of WU LYF, the incendiary Manchester four-piece whose rhetoric, imagery and solitary album described a new model for the untamed fury of youth.

Ebony and Ellery met in the band’s dying days in 2013. Ellery returned to Manchester from touring and met Ebony (visiting from Amsterdam) in the derelict squat that a group of Manchester based musicians shared. Both are artists in their own respective fields – Ebony is a recent graduate of the audio-visual department in Amsterdam’s prestigious Rietveld Academy – and the two quickly found themselves in constant contact over the internet, sharing dreams and inspiration. Eventually Ellery left his refuge in London to make a life with Ebony in Amsterdam, and they were able to focus on a shared life project in totality.

“It’s interesting living and creating together,” says Ellery. “Fundamentally we had this instantaneous feeling that we wanted to do this together, to explore life together. And music for me is an instinctual way to explore, document life.”

We’re excited to hear the results live at XOYO on 31 May!

LISS

ANNA OF THE NORTH

Tuesday 24 May 2016
Sold Out
Valette Street London E9 6NU

£7.50 ADV 8PM

Having formed just over a year ago, Liss have quickly become one of the most talked about new groups on the planet. With the class of Phoenix, the sass of Prince, and the deep grooves of Unknown Mortal Orchestra, they’re your favourite band but you just don’t know it yet.

Their new track Sorry is as infectious as it is addictive, featuring a stunning breakdown and devastating vocals. It follows the effortlessly seductive Always and the soulful swell of Try.

From Arhuus in Denmark, this date at MOTH Club marks their return to London after impressing at Electrowerkz. They’ve already supported the likes of Jungle and East India Youth in Europe, and we’re betting on big things to come throughout 2016.

Conner Youngblood’s mellow sounds have been swirling around the internet for the last few years, but it wasn’t until 2015’s The Generation Of Lift that he began to take off.

A master producer, he mixes intricate instrumentation with wide ranging samples creating a sound that’s that’s like no other. Tracks like Stockholm and The Badlands stood out due to their slick flow and DIY called it “dizzying work of future-R&B”.

An impressive live performer, he’ll cast a spell on you when he plays this date at The Waiting Room in May.
