JAMES YORKSTON is a singer / songwriter in the best folksy tradition, weaving together a seemingly effortless mix of sweet melodies, haunting lyrics, irrelevant humour and the odd blast of harmonica.
Continuing the annual tradition, the Luminaire will play host to James in full Yuletide mode, with very special guests, hand picked by James to play alongside him for an evening of festive glad tidings to warm our wintry hearts.
Discovered in a Perthshire village by Will Oldham (AKA Bonnie Prince Billy), ALASDAIR ROBERTS has a similarly dolorous worldview and shambolic charm. His voice is mournful, his richly melodic songs filled with slain kin, murderous gamekeepers and perfidious women ("you could not maintain your chastity," sniffs one of his songs Come My Darling Polly, "even with the wearing of a girdle").
His ensemble of material is original in every way, notwithstanding certain echoes of Incredible String Band's motley eclecticism, the pained isolation of Nick Drake and the neat integration of bits of British traditional music.
