The Roundhouse host the EMERGING PROMS for it’s fourth year this October, expanding on the successes of 2008 in a 3 day event featuring the best and brightest emerging UK bands and promoters. The proms creative concept extends beyond the shows themselves, with young members of the Roundhouse’s studio projects given opportunities to work with the featured bands on collaborative projects.
GOLD PANDA started writing beats and collaborating a few years ago, working with the likes of Infinite Livez and Shuttle (both Ninja Tune) as well as creating his own material.
Having spent downtime behind the counters of various establishments of ill repute – finding out that record stores and adult stores are no less seedier than each other, he consolidated the rest of his hours creating archives of electronic music; each track different from the other, incorporating multitudes of styles and disparate influences and obscure samples and base material. This led to a series of raved-about remixes, with requests from the likes of Little Boots, Telepathe, Bloc Party, Simian Mobile Disco and Health.
What does it sound like? One writer claimed that: “He intuitively mixes lopsided, chopped up hip hop style beats with a gorgeous refined melodic techno sensibility creating a fresh cross genre sound that’s distinct and accomplished.” Which sounds pretty good, so let’s go with that. The second half of 2009 will see Gold Panda touring with Simian Mobile Disco and adding to his three EP releases this year already with new material. Plus generally pushing on and consolidating his quickly burgeoning reputation as one of the brightest names in the electronic scene.

QUESTIONMARC & THE BAD PRODUCER (CUTUP COLLECTIVE) The anonymous CUTUP COLLECTIVE are based in East London, working in outdoor intervention, film and sound installation. Their work focuses largely on the potential for disruption inherent in the processes of normality. Following several site specific gigs, and a mini-tour of European bunkers two members of the collective will bring their huge DIY soundmachine to The Roundhouse Studios. Using esoteric electronics and eclectic data.
Also hailing from somewhere in London, the mystery-shrouded group PATTEN have been making waves with 'test mixxxes' of a handful of new songs made freely available online earlier this summer. With a sound as hard to pin down as it is easy to feel, they have been described as "something gothic and unknown" (The Quietus), "like listening to Liquid Liquid as you wait for the last tube at night" (20 Jazz Funk Greats), and "creating a kind of controlled clangor where the DFA lot might pull things wayyy back" (Pitchfork). They will bring their ghostly no-wave percussive workouts to The Roundhouse for EYOE. Come dressed to sweat.

SAMPHA’s blend of organic house and quirky electronics make for upbeat, funk-textured sound. Currently putting the finishing touches to his debut ep, at a mere 20 years old, this South London producer/vocalist is truly emerging talent.
