TIM BURGESS
 Reschedules London show

Eat Your Own Ears and Tim Burgess have decided to reschedule Tim’s solo London show from October 21st to December 16th.

The decision was taken after it was announced yesterday that The Charlatans will be hosting a one-off night at The Royal Albert Hall on October 18th in memory of drummer Jon Brookes who died last month.

Original tickets are valid for the new date. Refunds are available from your ticket agent.

It’s fair to say that over the past two years, Tim Burgess has been a very, very busy man. In that time, the Charlatans singer has completed Telling Stories, an autobiography for Penguin Books. He’s launched the bold O Genesis record label, releasing a series of 7″ singles that reflectsBurgess’ own diverse musical interests and his phenomenal crate-digging instincts. These have included singer songwriter Joseph Coward, the cult musician R Stevie Moore, an experimental noise piece from Factory Floor’s Nik Void, contemporary post punk via Electricity In Our Homes, and a spoken word release from poet Jack Underwood. That’s not to mention his presence on Twitter, where his Tim Peak’s Diner has become a virtual meeting place for music obsessives the world over. This, alongside his regular eclectic DJ sets, led Burgess to the attention of BBC 6 Music, who commissioned him to produce shows on Christmas and New Years Eve. And then, of course, there’s his new solo album Oh No I Love You, which arguably features some of Burgess’ finest music to date. It’s been a long journey from Manchester to Los Angeles, to a grey part of North East London and Nashville…

Were are delighted to host the much feted return of the immense QUASI

After 2 decades of launching drums, guitars and pianos through the shifting interzones between harmony and chaos (moonlighting along the way with the likes of Sleater-Kinney, Wild Flag, Elliott Smith, Built to Spill and a long list of others), Quasi are a genre of their own. Once again a two-piece, Sam Coomes and Janet Weiss make songs in the style of Quasi. Mole City, (out October 1 on Domino Records,) their ninth album, is the Quasi Song Book: Parlor Sing-alongs for the Last Century. Shakin’ blues, precision freak-outs, air-guitar-worthy riffs, heavy round droplets of time, fuzz everything, wah wahs, ya yas, ooh ahs, grunts, shuffle struts and chiming minor seventh chords – this is rock n roll.

Support from Sky Larkin.

We are pleased to announce Arthur Beatrice’s London show at Cargo in December.

Before the release of their new single, Grand Union, the band have reworked the song themselves for the first in a series of Open Assembly Edits. Listen here

“Reworking Grand Union gave us a chance to look at the song in a different light. It was a great chance to push some different influences, and experiment with production in ways that transform the original into a more dance oriented track.” – Arthur Beatrice

£6.50 ADVANCE

Following his self-assured debut single ‘Sea’ in late 2012, Roosevelt returns with his debut EP ‘Elliot’; another glimpse of the Cologne producer’s hazy, loved-up guitar pop.

Featuring brand new tracks ‘Montreal’ and ‘Elliot’ – the latter an ode to a girl and featuring girls’ n’ guns in the video – as well as the brilliant debut ‘Sea’ and ‘Around You’ which surfaced online earlier this year, Roosevelt has spent the past year honing his trademark Balearic electronica.

Last time around, Roosevelt supported label-mate Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs on his sold-out UK tour, but fresh from playing Boiler Room and Melt! in Berlin, Roosevelt has just completed his debut DJ tour of the US including dates in New York and LA.

Kurt Vile & The Violators

TRUE WIDOW + QUASI
O2 Shepherds Bush Empire
Wednesday 11 December 2013

£16 ADVANCE

We are pleased to announce Kurt Vile will return to London with his band The Violators this December.

Kurt Vile has a way of tying time in knots. Regularly compared to Leonard Cohen, Tom Petty, Psychic TV, and Animal Collective in the same review (for 2009’s Childish Prodigy), Kurt can bring to mind anything from Suicide to Leo Kottke to My Bloody Valentine, Bob Seger, Nick Drake, and Eastern ragas. Still, he pieces together these disparate elements so seamlessly and unpretentiously that such reference points are rendered pointless by the singularity of his sound. Kurt Vile might belong to a long lineage of classic American songwriters, but he’s the only one who’s alive and in his prime today.

PANES

RIVAH KRAY (DJ)

Wednesday 4 December 2013

Panes are London pair Tyson McVey and Shaun Savage.
Tyson is an ex-Goldsmith’s student and singer based in London and Stockholm. Shaun is a producer, recording engineer and one of the people behind London’s Flesh & Bone collective.

Within the music there is a sense of displacement or flux, the longing for something that can be felt if not articulated; the sort of melancholy felt when leisure is suddenly numbed by reality. It’s the feeling of distance between what we desire and where we are.

There are obvious nods to the contemporary leanings within RnB, rap, dance music and UK Bass culture as a whole. These are treated more like ghosts that dip in and out of a soundtrack that is aiming to convey a life and modern love far more complex, dysfunctional and uncertain than most of us would like to admit.

After self-releasing their debut track ‘Choice Errors’ to the sound of blanket blog love, they are playing their debut show this Wednesday 4th December 2013 at The Kings Head, 257 Kingsland Road E2 8AS.

£8.50 ADVANCE

EVER SINCE THE release of their downbeat 2010 debut album, the decidedly chilly North, Darkstar have been brightening up.

Former dour employees with Kode9′s Hyperdub label the London-based duo of James Young and Aiden Whalley initially specialised in downtempo dubstep sadness before enlisting singer James Buttery for North, composing the kind of melancholy post-Burial urban laments that lonesome young clubbers might well serenade themselves with on some 4am nightbus back from Shoreditch to Walthamstow.

Released in February of this year, their second album, News From Nowhere, was like winter sunlight through those grey-smudged top-deck windows, warming their bones and blood and stimulating a collective sleep-deprived hypothalmus.

Blissful, immersive, romantic and slightly stoned, News From Nowhere gave passing nods to the psychedelic serenades and communal bedroom psych of Grizzly Bear and Animal Collective, as well as the sunrise pop psych swap-meets of late 60s Beach Boys and Harpers Bizarre.

£11 ADVANCE

It’s not often a band gets on the cover of NME when their debut single is still a fortnight away from release. It’s even rarer that they live up to the excitement. Palma Violets do. Operating somewhere between the two extremes of hype and heroism; dishing out an album that sounds half like a roguish and ramshackle 60’s garage band and half blistering rock and roll. Every song has energy, power and presence. Debut album on Rough Trade, 180, is named after the number of the lambeth house that the four-peice have become known for throwing parties and impromptu gigs and for fans and friends in.

For fans of The Modern Lovers, The Libertines and early Clash.

Factory Floor release their brilliant debut album on DFA next week, and announce a show at London’s Heaven, 3rd December.

The self-produced, self-titled album was inspired by the cutting edge sonic advances made during the 80s – from techno to industrial – but with a totally modern surface. Appropriately it was mixed on the same desk used to make early Eurythmics hits and features their signature minimal yet forceful sound.
