Midwestern band TILLY AND THE WALL consists of two dressed-down boys, two glamorous girls and one frenzied hoofer, the tutu-wearing Julie Williams with pockets full of melodies sprang out of Nowheresville, USA, with a penchant for classic 60s pop, boy/girl harmonies and American folk records. They create jagged, elegant songs, and rejoice in tales of friendship, broken hearts, and youthful dreams and frustrations.

Brooklyn’s TV ON THE RADIO play a live set of new
material from their forthcoming 4AD album that sees them deliver an
addictive and unique blend of new york noise, amped-up electronica,
twitchy, danceable beats,  gospel-esq vocals and swathes of
treated guitar into rich and endlessly surprising folds of sound.

Its like Joy Division, Curtis Mayfield, Kraftwerk and, um, Kool &
The Gang. Add the fact that singer Tunde Adebimpe’s hair looks as if
it’s about to leap off his head and claw your face off and Kyp Malone’s
backing vocals sound like Prince deformed by helium-lust into some sort
of Gollum creature, and you’ve got a nail-gnawing, tongue-chewing,
eyeball-spasming comedown classic set of tunes; as razor-sharp as a
sunlight in dilated pupils, as edgy as 11am raps on a pub front door,
as ‘chilled’ as a cocaine heart attack, healthy as hypertension!

Having sold out their February sow at the Luminaire a month in advance BATTLES the avant-experimentalists and math rock super group – including John Stanier on drums, originating from the legacy that is Helmet, and still lending his skills to Mike Patton?s Tomahawk and Australian powerhouse The Mark of Cain; Ian Williams guitarist/ keyboardist known for his distinctive guitar styling in cult band Don Caballero; Dave Konopka, guitar and bass, previously in the underground band Lynx and Tyondai Braxton, avant-garde solo musician (who recently collaborated with Prefuse 73), here vox/ keyboardist/ guitar/ electronics play a headline show at Dingwalls on Monday April 24th to promote their new Warp records release Battles ‘EP C/B EP’ out on February 20th.

Their live sets sees them concoct a mix of strident post-rock/ jazz/ hardcore and electronics, stunning crowds with mind boggling poly-rhythmic sequences and complicated time signatures, hurtled at you with sheer sonic velocity.

Too beat orientated to be dubbed ?post rock?, as vanguards Battles stand on their own in the realm of contemporary music. Battles will captivate you live with the dexterous competency of each member, executing musical forms previously unattainable outside the sphere of the electronic scene.

?Battles dismantle post rock, hip hop and serial music, only to reassemble the pieces in the wrong order?with phrases zipping back and forth across the listener?s consciousness, they reduce his or her brain to a quivering joyful mush?. Plan B

?As trite as a term ?supergroup? has become, it?s hard not to use it in reference to a band like Battles. Some would be hard pressed to name another group combining such a pedigree with a calculated, yet fearlessly avant-garde, experimental sound? ? Anthem (US)
