The recent Domino Recording Co. signees have unveiled their video for lead single Edge of Town!
With Hot Chip’s back to back shows at the Brixton Academy just a month or so around the corner, we thought it would be nice to take a look at some festival highlights from 2012 (and a few choice picks from before).
Tickets for the 19th have sold out but there are a few laying about for the show on the 18th here!
Luke Temple and co. are lined up to play their second London date of 2012 late this October. Check out this video of when they were here last, performing Alone But Moving at the Hampstead Heath bandstand!
Here’s a second playlist courtesy of the Hot Chip frontman himself – this time delivered through the magic of youtube videos!

In honour of James Yorkston’s superb new record ‘I Was A Cat From A Book’ here are some literary cats. Best enjoyed with that new Yorkston record playing (of course)…

When he’s not on international tours or making absurdist videos, Hot Chip frontman Alexis Taylor is known to be an absolute class DJ. He’s thrown together a mix which in itself is already amazing, pushing it to the whole next level is his written breakdown of each track. Listen and read below!
1.Intro (Don’t Stop Til You Guess Enough Alexis edits) – A mix incorporating a lot of inspirational records – Royal Trux, Esso Trinidad Steel Band, Beach Boys, the sound of Coca Cola bottles being played by The Jacksons, which was all over a lot of the new album as a percussion idea… Wiley is also in there with his ‘Wot Do You Call It?’ I played this record, and then threw it across the room like a frisbee once. I wish I still had it but I needed ammunition.
2. D’Angelo – Playa Playa: D’Angelo loves Prince, and on the following track Prince repays the debt…
3. Prince – Muse 2 The Pharaoh: Prince does a D’Angelo rip. I would have put If I Was Your Girlfriend on there as the drum loop is the starting point of the slowed clap on Now There Is Nothing from our album, but everyone knows that amazing song already.
4. Da Vist Boys – Body Shaking (Rosko Gee Remix): The best song that no one ever heard, introduced to me by Justus Koehncke. I think of it as an accidental sister to Night and Day, which we made before I heard this record.
5. John Tchicai, Mike Hurley, Mark Sanders, John Coxon – Set 1b At The Mac (excerpt): an improvisation I like to play on top of other records when DJing.
6. Robert Owens – Bring Down The Walls: An exciting and sexy house record from a long time ago.
7. Michael Jackson – Don’t Stop ‘Til You Get Enough (Original demo): The raw sound of The Jacksons at their best. Arthur Russell would have loved this.
8. Diana Ross – I’m Coming Out: You can feel the influence of this and other Nile Rodgers on Don’t Deny Your Heart and How Do You Do? from our album.
9. Epic Soundtracks feat. Robert Ellidge (Wyatt) – Jelly Babies: One of my favourite discoveries from Robert Wyatt’s (related) back catalogue… and an inspiration for our song of the same name that Japanese people will be able to buy in June.
10. Beach Boys – Cabinessence: In the back of our minds most of the time, the colourful and playful productions of the Beach Boys. This song and the next are good indicators of what Now There Is Nothing has to do with, in terms of guitar chords/timbre.
11. Neil Young – Don’t Be Denied: Something I listened to a lot over the last few years.
12. R. Kelly – Reality: Ditto. Listen to this on your own.
13. Nightlife Unlimited – Peaches and Prunes (Ron Hardy edit): Joe had this in mind partly when starting Night and Day.
14. Win Win feat. Lizzi Bougatsos – ReleaseRPM: Inspirational and joyful. A great release. She sings with us at the end of In Our Heads.
