Session: Martin Creed

The brilliant Martin Creed takes us through his anthem for living “Thinking/Not Thinking” in this Guardian session. The performance is well worth sticking around for. He puts similar thought mechanisms into making songs as his does to his artwork and that makes him a truly singular musician too.

James Yorkston reads from It’s Lovely to Be Here

James Yorkston’s tour diaries are a thing of wonder and something we have read cover to cover a couple of times now. Nothing beats the man himself reading, though, which you can experience above. He plays for us again this Spring and we can’t wait.

Listen: Wild Swim – Bright Eyes

We’re big fans of Wild Swim here, with their deep, rumbling beats slotting nicely alongside any otherworldly R&B from the last year that you could mention. Take a listen to ‘Bright Eyes’ from last year with its cloudbursting guitars, deep low-end and upfront vocals. They play Shacklewell Arms for us next week.

This Week’s Gigs + Kindness – House

We have two shows this week to welcome in the warmer weather and sunshine. And neither could be more fitting. In one corner (Scala) we have Summer Camp, and a chance to hear their huge pop jams from ‘Welcome to Condale’ once more. In the other corner, Kindness will be playing XOYO for us.

In lieu of our regular weekly rundown (these are our only two shows) we’ll leave you with our favourite track from the Kindness record above. “House” is a heater, full of humid textures and big harmonies. The campaign for Summer Jam 2012 starts here.
