Radio: Tribes

Another brilliant Field Day radio offering and this time it is the turn of Tribes – one of the most exciting young bands on the block. Take a listen to some of their favourite songs past/present here including ‘Stupid Girl’ by Garbage, which we (possibly all of us) don’t hear enough.

Electrelane

Electrelane’s run of summer shows is nearly over, and after next Thursday’s show at XOYO, we’re not sure when we’ll see them again.  However, last Saturday they were on the Eat Your Own Ears stage at last Saturday’s Field Day and you can see some great shots of their performance over at This Is Fake DIY.

Listen: History of Apple Pie

Here is one we have coming up in September and fresh from opening up proceedings at Field Day 2011. History of Apple Pie remind us a little bit of early Smashing Pumpkins and a few other indie-pop bands of the 1990s but there’s something nice and noisy about the band live with whirring guitars and sweet female harmonies. Take a look at the summer-tinged video for their debut single above.

Preview: August and beyond.

We’re gathering our breath after another great Field Day weekend but all things Eat Your Own Ears continue apace this week and for the rest of the month with some really exciting shows. Here’s a little guide for anyone feeling a bit lost in the headlights of the post-festival daze.

Mark Kozelek – Kozelek plays Union Chapel on Thursday. The guy is one of our pre-eminent miserablists with his project Red House Painters painting some of the most hauntingly beautiful and sad narratives of the 1990s. Lately though with Sun Kil Moon and his solo work there’s a lighter tint to his work from covering Modest Mouse to the life-affirming feel of Sun Kil Moon’s ‘Ghost of the Great Highway’. UK shows are rare so we are excited to entering the world of Kozelek once more.

Fixers – Oxford band Fixers are stepping things up lately. The album is finished and apparently sounding great. If it’s anything like their new and recently Radio One C-list single ‘Swimhaus Johannesburg’ then heading down to the Shackewell for this one could be a last chance to see Fixers before they blow up big.

Psychologist –We had him play for us in Stoke Newington a little while ago and it’s fair to say everybody there left a little bit blown away. The EP is out now and is attracting rave reviews from all corners. Another one we’ll be keeping a close eye on.

Slow Club

Listen to Lauren Laverne’s show from yesterday morning to hear her play “You, Earth or Ash” from their next album.  Be sure not to miss them at Shepherd’s Bush Empire on September 26.
