Eat Your Own Ears at Field Day

After a wait that felt like it would never end, we are now only a few days away from Field Day and the excitement is palpable.  As ever, Eat Your Own Ears shall be curating it’s own stage at this year’s festival which shall play host to Junip, Villagers, Warpaint, The Coral, Sun Ra Arkestra, Wild Beasts, John Cale and Electrelane.

As perhaps one of the most influential, and talented, musicians of the 20th Century, it would be remiss of us not to commence our preview with John Cale.  Coming to prominence as a founding member of The Velvet Underground, he then went on to make his name as a producer and started to make his own material.  Having been making music for 5 decades and with a bulging discography, it really is an honour to have John Cale appear on our stage.

Hailing from California, Warpaint marry together intricate guitars, spell-binding vocals and exquisite lyrics perfectly with psychedelic soundscapes and dynamic rhythms.  With the release of their debut EP ‘Exquisite Corpse’ in 2008, it is only recently that they have received much deserved mainstream acclaim which was demonstrated by their shortlisting in the BBC Sound Of 2011 poll.

Kurt Vile & The Violators and Woods

Ahead of their forthcoming tour, Kurt Vile and his band The Violators have announced that they shall be releasing a split 7” with Woods.  So far, it looks like it will have Woods on the A-Side with “Skull” and “Cold Blue” and Vile on the B-Side “Commercial Reject,” “In/Out Blues” and “Water Fingers.”  If it is indeed true that this is only being sold at their live shows, you really can’t afford to miss them at the Scala on 8 September!
