Laneway Festival Eat Your Own Ears Stage Announced!

We are excited to announce the line up for our stage at Australia’s Laneway Festival in association with the Windish Agency. We can’t wait to see bands like Warpaint, Ariel Pink and Deerhunter!

Eat Your Own Ears in Association with Windish Agency present:

GOTYE is Wally De Backer, a Belgian who was raised in Australia. He creates dark pop music, using snippets of old cassettes and crackly vinyl to create new music full of hip hop beats, brass constructions and even Gregorian chants. The resulting swirl of rhythms, samples and melodies creates a new kind of psychedelia.

Mixing woozy ambience, hypnotic Krautrock, art-damaged squall and classic, 60s-inspired pop into one wholly arresting package, Athens, Georgia four-piece DEERHUNTER have quickly cemented themselves as one of the most compelling and combustible bands of their era. Led by the magnetic presence of frontman Bradford Cox, DEERHUNTER create reverb-drenched soundscapes and propulsive guitar pop, their new album, Halcyon Digest developing their sound even further to make an album of lush, elegant, nostalgic neo-psychedelia that manages to keep pushing forward even as it’s looking back.

ARIEL PINK’S HAUNTED GRAFFITI is the eccentric Ariel Rosenberg and his band, the Haunted Graffiti. Ariel Pink uses an ultra lo-fo recording set-up to re-imagine cheesy AM radio jingles and lost new wave tracks as surreal, art-damaged pop. His music can be bizarre and disturbing, with warped voices and dark subject matter evoking loneliness, bad drugs, and alienation; it can also be sweet and even sincere, celebrating the pleasure of a well-rendered verse melody and a good chorus. His newest release, Before Today, sees him venturing into a proper recording studio to create an album that is catchy and more accessible, but which still retains the lo-fi qualities of his earlier records.

The five-piece LOCAL NATIVES blend hazy southern Californian melodies, tightly assembled harmonies alongside a natural percussive frame. Their incessant touring and hours spent living and writing together has provided a unifying connection. Their debut album aptly named after their communal home; ‘Gorilla Manor’ is a torrent of evolving, encompassing and emotional sound. It has the warmth and instant attraction on hearing mid period Talking Heads or Band of Horses for the first time.

WARPAINT make music to immerse yourself in. Reverb drenched vocals and waves of guitar wash over you, underpinned by meandering bass and drums. This band don’t stick to your standard verse-chorus-verse, their songs develop and expand from section to section, not constricted by conventional structures. Live, the chemistry between the four women who make up WARPAINT is riveting, effortlessly commanding the audience’s attention.

There has been a lot of buzz about young indie band CLOUD CONTROL over the past few years, and with their debut album Bliss Release, they have well and truly lived up to the hype.  Having spent a couple of years establishing themselves as Australia’s ‘next big things’, thanks in small part to a few notable gigs (including sharing the stage with Vampire Weekend and The Temper Trap), in 2009 the band released the first taste of the debut LP: the stirring, mellow single, “Gold Canary”. With its chorus full of hooks, blissful guy/girl harmonies and quirky catchiness, the song quickly earned accolades in Australia and abroad; a shining introduction to an equally exceptional record.

THE ANTLERS are garnering praise from all quarters (Pitchfork, NPR, The Guardian) for their skyscraping, shape-shifting new album Hospice.  It’s a solemn, wistful, gorgeous album with lashings of sweeping crescendos and the sense of drama that makes Arcade Fire so great.  Singer Peter Silberman’s voice is something to write home about, at once warm, familiar and majestic in its reach. Expect to hear much more about the Brooklyn three-piece in the months to come.

If you like cosmic disco, you’ll love WORLD’S END PRESS. Already selling out shows in their native Melbourne, the band is fast developing a rep for their exhilarating live show. Onstage, John Parkinson (vocals / guitar), Rhys Richards (synthesizers / electronics), Sashi Dharann (bass) and Tom Gould (drums) literally bounce off the walls, off the stage and wherever else they happen to find themselves.  Bloody hell, it’s fun.  With triple j and community radio supporting singles ‘Faithful’ and ‘Golden Child’, and having supported acts as diverse as diverse as Delphic (UK), Miami Horror, Temper Trap, Art vs Science, Regurgitator and Pikelet, this is a band on the rise.

New Mount Kimbie Video

Really nice take on the tour-vid from favourites Mount Kimbie for one of the album highlights ‘Before I Move Off’. Kind of wish life moved as rhythmically as this.
