This is a 14+ show

When Southend's immaculately attired garage rock quintet stalked onto the East End pub circuit in late 2005, it was immediately clear they were going to make waves in the indie fashion world, if nowhere else. But their debut album 'On Strange House,' proves that they have the substance to back-up their Dickensian undertaker image.

THE HORRORS, who bonded over a shared obsession with obscure Sixties garage vinyl, channel their wildest crate-digging fantasies into venomous tales from the crypt. As they play a live set of swamp drenched reverb laden, country blues, rockabilly, retard punk action that sounds like the birthday party playing tav falco and panther burns while being devoured by vampires…

KID KOALA – Thursday 3 May – KOKO, London

Eat Your Own Ears presents
KID KOALA
plus special Ninja Tune DJ Guests

Thursday 3 May
Doors 7.30pm

KOKO
1A Camden High Street, Camden, London NW1 0870 432 5527

Tickets £13.50 from: www.ticketweb.co.uk Tel: 08700 600 100 www.seetickets.com 0870 060 3777

Scratchmaster, illustrator, graphic artist, film maker, puppet master and musician KID KOALA flys in from Vancouver, Canada to play a rare and bind blowing set using four turntables of cut up samples, scratching, beat juggling as he smoothly mixes jazz standards played by drunken horn players from New Orleans to hip hop from the other side and ska like you never imagined it… its quick, witty and technically absurd!!

"A cartoony, day-glo mix of ragtime rock n' roll, blues and movie samples. Your Mom's is as funny as it is funky. File between Hendrix and The Simpsons" The Times

"An appealing mix of classic hip-hop, beats, breaks and plenty of heavy guitars… A Master" The Sun

“One of the few vinyl manipulators to wield the wheels of steel with genuine artistic grace and ambition.”  Independent

“An album that that not only entertains but does so on several different levels… Lose Yourself In Kid Koala's krackpot world… Dazzling.”  Mojo

"There is something incredibly happy about listening to Kid Koala; the rhythm and blend are perfect whatever mood you're in when you hit the play button."  Blowback

Tonight KIERAN HEBDEN (FOUR TET) and veteran jazz drummer STEVE REID promote their 3rd release Tongues on Domino Records.

Steve Reid is the legendary drummer who in 1964 at 19 years of age played on Martha Reeves & the Vandellas’ ‘Dancing In The Street’, and subsequently went on to play with Miles Davis, Fela Kuti and James Brown (think about that for a moment), not to mention Fats Domino, Sun Ra, Peggy Lee, Chaka Khan, Dexter Gordon, Dionne Warwick and many, many more. Their unique live show blends Kieran's electronic experimentation with Steve Reid's laid back yet complex driving polyrhythms.

GREEN GARTSIDE (Scritti Politti) & ALEXIS TAYLOR (Hot Chip)
Whilst discussing the various merits of Jodeci, Biz Markie and Paul McCartney's recorded works, Scritti Politti's Green Gartside and Hot Chip's Alexis Taylor decided they should take their newly-found fondness for song and sound beyond the pub, and into a smaller room where they could write and record together. They have set about doing this, and this will be their debut live outing. They will be competing for the 'highest voice' prize throughout the evening.

DJ JAMES HOLDEN has managed to carve out a niche for himself that is all his own – try and pigeonhole his sound at your peril. The boy wonder with a maths degree from Oxford University honed his production and DJing craft in his student digs, with a £500 computer and some free software, and took the dance music world by storm in 1999 with the powerfully emotive ‘Horizons’ on Silver Planet. Although he has since moved on from the progressive sound that made his name, the haunting melodies of the genre can still be found twisting eerily in and out of the warped soundscapes of his more recent productions.

Like his productions, James Holden’s DJ sets draw in elements of house, electro, breakbeat, techno and genres that probably haven’t even got a name. As far from ‘minimal’ as you could possible get, simply because there is so much to draw you into this weird and wonderful hazy musical world – James Holden is the man to get even the most jaded dance music aficionado excited about music again.

The Aliens ULU March 19th 07 Show Postponded

I am sorry to announce but THE ALIENS MARCH TOUR – HAS BEEN POSTPONED

The Aliens regret to announce the cancellation of their tour dates due to an unfortunate episode involving lead singer Gordon Anderson and some overly high jinx. On Saturday afternoon Gordon fell and broke his clavicle whilst climbing a tree with band mate John.  As a result the band will be unable to play the following dates:

MARCH
14th                 Sheffield Leadmill
15th                 Nottingham Social
18th                 Bristol Fleece
19th                 London ULU
20th                 Leeds Fathersham
21st                  Newcastle Cluny
23rd                 Glasgow Classic Grande
24th                 Belfast Speakeasy
25th                 Dublin Crawdaddy

Fans that have bought tickets can use them again when the dates are rescheduled, this is likely to be June 14th at the ULU. Details will be posted here this week when all is 100% confirmed

On a lighter and less painful note, the album 'Astronomy For Dogs' is out on Monday 19th March.  This already acclaimed album is a formidable work of alt-pop genius. Latest single, 'Setting Sun' manages the tricky feat of marrying retro acid-rock stylings to a timeless pop song and then sprinkling this sublime concoction with a healthy dash of sonic spacedust. Put it alongside previous singles 'Happy Song' and 'Alienoid Starmonica' and you can imagine what excitement the album delivers across its eleven tracks.  Just don't get so exited that you run up a tree.
