Guide to Handpicked

image

In a couple of weeks we hit The Roundhouse armed with some of the best that new music has to offer – and all for £5. Take a read/listen below at the line-up and what to expect…

NZCA/Lines

NZCA/Lines is hitting SXSW in a big way this week before heading back for Handpicked. It wouldn’t be a surprise if they emerged as one of the whispered about names. The project is the brainchild of Michael Lovett, who elegantly twists electronica and R&B into sparse, romantic forms.

East India Youth

The first signing to the newly minted record label from The Quietus is East India Youth. His dreamy, swooning sonic explorations call to mind the fractured pop of Julia Holter. Have a listen above and fall in love.

Teleman

With a debut single out on Moshi Moshi Teleman are already taking over London hearts with their wistful guitar pop. Christina is our favourite from them so far with it’s gently-bursting guitar lines and slow build. Think Cults meet early Field Music.

Dark Bells

We’re enjoying the dark guitar-pop of Dark Bells a lot lately – enough to squeeze them on the Field Day bill too. There are shades of Toy, 90s PJ Harvey and a lot more good stuff to boot. Saccarine vocals make for a nice contrast to the wiry, sharp guitar lines on ‘Want’. Have a listen above.

Paradise

Paradise took over the blogosphere with their early demos a couple of years ago. Since then they knuckled-down, honing their sound into the gem you can hear above. The blooming, romantic pop of Endless Waves calls to mind early New Order and a little soul too.

Fews

Fans of DIIV and Real Estate might just find their new favourite band in Fews. Spindly guitar lines work hard around cavernous vocals. It’s the sort of dreamy indie-pop made to be collected on 7” singles and handmade t-shirts. Take a listen above.

Vondelpark – California Analog Dream (Video)

Following on from yesterdays stunning remix of Vondelpark from Bullion, today we have a gorgeous new video for the original track. Gently morphing paint textures and bursting ink make for nice contrasts to the ebbing colours behind the band playing. Take a watch above…

Vondelpark – California Analog Dream (Bullion Remix)

Recently Vondelpark revealed a newly revamped and somehow more beautiful take on their early song California Analog Dream. This week they show-off a lithe remix from Bullion that shakes the song in another new way. Listen below…

Sinkane – Warm Spell (Barker & Baumecker Remix)

image

Here’s a new Sinkane remix that just dropped and a very good one too. Barker & Baumecker take on Warm Spell (following on from a Dapnhi remix of ‘Runnin’). The duo tease out all sorts of emotion, keeping the mood going for a good 6 minutes too.

Sinkane plays for us at Hoxton Bar & Kitchen on April 3rd and we can’t wait!

The xx Night+Day additions: Polica, Kindness and Mount Kimbie

Very excited to unveil a couple of new additions to The xx event at Osterly Park this summer. Joining the band will be Polica, Kindness and Mount Kimbie with plenty more to come.

For good measure, take a look at the Kindness video for “House”, one of our favourites from 2012.
