One of our favourite bands of recent years – Summer Camp – are back shortly with a brand new album. You can watch a trailer for the record above, and we are delighted to have them back playing for us in November. The show is onsale now and you can check out details for that one right here.
Night + Day Photos – Hannah Marshall
Saturday saw a very special Night + Day festival unfold just north of London. The festival was a big success and some of the photos starting to appear are stunning. No more so than Hannah Marshall’s backstage set (recommended by The xx)… Take a look at more of her shots on her own Tumblr here.
Thanks to everybody who came and made it so special.
Guide to Young Turks
Night + Day is upon us – the London leg of The xx led event is tomorrow and we are beyond excited. As we wait out the final remaining hours, here’s a guide to the label behind The xx (and a few other artists playing…) – the excellent Young Turks.
The Young Turks label is nearly 100 releases old, so we’ve picked a couple of landmark numbers and songs to post to tell the story.
YT001 – Jack Penate – Second Minute or Hour
It all started with Jack Penate, but his influence extends a bit further than you’d expect too – his old backing singer Jessie Ware releasing a single with Sampha some 55 release later. Take Jack for a spin above.
YT010 – Holy Fuck – Lovely Allen
Holy Fuck’s self-titled debut was the first Young Turks LP and the Lovely Allen single was the label’s tenth release. The song still sounds just as good as it did back then too.
YT023 – The xx – Crystalised
The focus of Night + Day and still Young Turk’s most famous success. The incubating of the precocious and hugely talented band is one of Young Turk’s greatest achievements so far. Crystalised a superb introduction. See also YT031 (The xx – The xx).
YT060 – SBTRKT – SBTRKT
Another huge success and another act Eat Your Own Ears have worked with over the past few years. The SBTRKT debut is superb, can’t wait for the next one.
YT088 – Koreless – Sun
Koreless’ Yugen EP is one of our favourites of the year so far. He also plays Night + Day and we can’t wait. Check out the hypnotising Sun above.
With Night + Day upon us this weekend we’re delighted to share the stage times with you so you can map out the day. We also have a new Jamie xx mix to really ramp up the excitement levels even further. Take a listen to the set below…
Solange graces a couple of magazine covers this month ahead of her turn at The xx’s Night + Day festival in London (tickets: http://thexx.info/nightandday). Above is a shot from Brooklyn Magazine (read the article here: http://bit.ly/11hjFJU) and below is Solange on the front of Complex this month.
